Policies a UK Opposition Should Know About
Conference season is here so let’s look at some policies an opposition party would need to put in its manifesto to get my attention:
- Abolish Private Healthcare
- Abolish Private Rented Accommodation
- Abolish the right to buy
- Make affordable housing stay affordable, no sale except to first time house buyers in perpetuity at an affordable home standard price.
- Bring all necessities for living under Public Ownership: Power, Water, Transport
- Abolish Private Education
- Abolish inheritance of property
- Abolish multiple home ownership until everyone has at least one home.
- All homes to be for life and never simply temporary accommodation.
- Minimum wage to be sufficient to provide a permanent home and a future with all the basic things a person needs to live as full social participant.
- Unemployment Benefits to match the minimum wage.
Well you get the gist. Such policies for me would represent an opposition platform offering people real choices in how they are to be governed. A choice between a political and social ethos based on Community and collective well being as opposed to the primacy of individual greed being the source of all.
